LET ‘SAXIFY’ GRATIFY
written by Fiona Bloom
Saxophonist/Producer Susanne Alt’s thirst for great sax is fulfilled

New York, NY, 2016
The talented and gorgeous Susanne Alt born in Germany and based in the Netherlands has been hard at work on her much anticipated sixth studio project. ‘Saxify’ is being released under her own imprint, Venus Tunes which shows a very funky side to her craft! The Album will be available on all formats with the vinyl release ahead of the CD version on March 18th.
The lead album single and title track “Saxify” is out mid-Feb on 7” inch featuring Susanne on alto sax plus up and coming vocalist Lorren Rettich. Lorren is originally from Israel, and resides in the Netherlands with her own debut album out.
With a classical background growing up in Germany, both parents musical forces in her life, Susanne then decided to explore and delve even further musically into the Jazz Realm and moved to the Netherlands forming outfits including a quartet, and a collaboration with DJ’s. Later on in her career, Alt learned to DJ and took that talent on the road whilst playing Saxophone.
Over the years she’s been touring and recording with a number of musicians and for this latest endeavor Susanne wanted to collaborate with a broad mix and combination of talent that influenced her throughout her journey.
Mainly inspired by 70’s and 80’s Funk Music, this latest work has the feel and groove with musicians lending a hand from Tower of Power, Earth, Wind and Fire, Maceo Parker’s band, S.O.S. Band, Fred Wesley, Michael Hampton, Michael “Clip” Payne, and the vocalists Lex Empress, Lorren Rettich, Berenice Van Leer, Mavis Acquah, SaraLee Vos, who are staples from the thriving scene in the Netherlands. Working with them and incorporating the DJ element along with remixes is what gives Susanne that edge and extra groove.
All the music from ‘Saxify’ is written, arranged and produced by Susanne. Although the alto sax is her instrument of choice, she’s also featured on soprano, tenor, flute and backing vocals.
Other stand out tracks include “Wednesday Funk” which is inspired by the J.B. Horns and features Fred Wesley on trombone. Susanne on alto and Brooklyn MC Jorscan.
“From the canals of Amsterdam- keeping it live Brooklyn to Amsterdam”. Funky hook to chorus bridging the roots!
“Throwback” pokes a little fun. It has an 80’s Rapper’s Delight, Sugar Hill Gang feel and literally throws back to all Susanne’s musical influences. Fred Wesley taking the mic and going through the history as well as solo’ing his trombone. There’s even a sax battle with Scott Mayo too.
“Tudo Bem” has that Brazilian Jazz House feel with the sultry sounds of Lex Empress on vocals (Kraak & Smaak) Fred Wesley on trombone , Susanne Alt on flute and Jerome Hôl on guitar. Great dance vibes, feel good song.
“Open Up” has a Rhythm and Blues sound that feels like a Chaka Khan song- - uplifting, super rhythmic with some incredible percussive sounds. Berenice van Leer (Lead singer of Kraak&Smaak and daughter of ‘Focus’ frontman Thijs Van Leer” is on vocals. Great alt and soprano solos.
There are 11 songs on ‘Saxify’. It’s a journey in feel good music, great musicianship, and lots of foreplay. Appropriately titled!
Music for grown ups and the not so grown! Babies will be made!

Melodiva (Germany, 06-07-2016): “Saxify” is a must for fans of funk and wind players and is obligatory for dancing maniacs.”
